What is the Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make?

“Was that a man dragging a woman by the hair?”  I asked my wife as I jogged into the kitchen.  I was in a lunch time feeding frenzy and was going for another handful of chips.  Kimberly confirmed that it appeared to be a man dragging an unconscious woman off of an elevator by her hair!

We put our DVR to good use and discovered that NFL running back, Ray Rice, had punched his girlfriend, knocking her out cold.  It was all recorded on the Casino’s security cameras.  The event has been all over the news and caused a lot of commotion for the NFL and commissioner, Roger Goodell.

In the heat of the moment, Ray Rice made a decision that has caused him to lose his job and millions of dollars.  He may never play football again.  His decision has also affected the lives of many NFL executives and been cause for an investigation of the NFL.  Much of the public now sees him as a monster.

It is amazing how one decision can affect your life or someone else’s so dramatically.  It is estimated that the decision to drop the atomic bombs during World War II killed 200,000 people.

Decision MakingWhat is the most important decision you will ever make?  Is it who you are going to marry?  Is it where to go to college or what career to pursue?  Is it where you will live or what hobbies to pursue?  Is it how to stay popular and respected?  Albert Einstein said,  “The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.”   A popular author writing to teenagers said that the 6 most important decisions you’ll ever make center around the following six topics:  Succeeding in school, making good friends, getting along with parents, dating and sex, avoiding and overcoming addictions, and building self-esteem.

The most important decision you will ever make is whether you will follow Jesus.  Jesus said if anyone “would”.  This is a decision.  This is a decision each one of us makes daily.  I made this decision shortly after my mother prayed me into high school at Calvary Temple in Sterling VA.  I remember being challenged by Pastor Star R. Scott during chapel services to decide if Jesus was worthy of following.

Decision-cartoonMatt 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?

The most important decision is not where you go to church or if you are a good person.  Your soul is precious.  What would you give in exchange for your soul?

Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Many people believe that if their good works outweigh their bad deeds they will be alright.  The most important decision you can ever make is to do the will of God.  Without this you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

God’s will for us is that we would be born again.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

God’s will is that we would allow Him to choose what kind of life that we live, and tell others the good news of the Gospel.  We do not have to pay for our sins.  Jesus died so we could be forgiven.  The bible says that if we would seek first the kingdom of God and His righteous anything that we need for this life and eternity will be added to us.  Would you risk an eternity of suffering in hell for anything this life has to offer?  Many people feel that a good career or finding a life’s mate is the most important decision that you could make.

The devil says that unless you follow this world’s methods and philosophies that you will miss out on a great life.  The opposite is true.  If we do what our culture says instead of the bible we will lose our souls.  The bible says that heaven is so amazing that we cannot even imagine the things that are prepared for us there!

Life is not easy but YOU ARE GREATLY LOVED by the Creator of the universe.  There is nothing that you have done that can’t be FORGIVEN if you will cry out to Him!

You will live forever in heaven with the Lord if you make the most important decision to follow Jesus with all of your heart!  Making this decision will involve giving your whole life and telling others about His great love.  I am not saying that your life will be easier you may even lose family and friends.  You may not get to live the comfortable American dream but you will have Jesus by your side!   If you have already made the most important decision to follow Jesus are you in a bible teaching church encouraging others?  Are you preaching the gospel everywhere you go?  If you seek for Him with all of your heart you will find Him!  What is your decision?
