Are you willing to bear the name of Jesus? Are you willing to be labeled as a Christian in today’s society? Those are the questions that Pastor Jon Miller asked the Young Adult group in the August meeting.
So many Christians today are more than willing to wear sports gear, business apparel, company logos and more but refuse to bear the name of Jesus in their daily lives.
Why? We see in the book of Acts what the consequences of bearing the name of Jesus was –
“But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.”
In our lives, we may be mocked or ridiculed, but we are not in danger of being thrown in prison or killed. (yet)
Why don’t we share the gospel? Why won’t we bear the name of Jesus? Pastor Jon summed it up in one word, pride.
Are you offended by some sin more than others? We must share the gospel with ALL!
Do you think that some people that you encounter aren’t worthy to hear the gospel because of their sin or because of the way they look, etc?
Jesus sought sinners to change their hearts. Do you seek sinners as Jesus did? There is no class, race and type of person that is out of Jesus’ reach.
“But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel.”
Know the Truth, Share the Truth
You cannot share with others beyond your own relationship with Jesus.
When you are sharing the gospel, you must present the truth and authority of the Word of God, not your opinion or “I believe”
God is the God of transformations .. He wants to take you as a fearful, doubting individual into a Holy-Ghost filled and powerful God-fearing man
“And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
The final question to consider today is this:
What name is upon your life? The name of Jesus? Religious? Businessman? Wealthy?
