A Teenage Miracle

praying handsAs I heard the whoosh of the metal door I looked across the large room from my chair in the back.  The sound had broken my concentration so I took a moment to survey the room.  I could make out several forms.  There was a Washington Redskin jersey, a scarf, and some kind of a left over from the 1980’s, neon shirt being worn by shapes I could make out.  Some were kneeling, others walking, still others were trying hard to stay conscious.  My heart swelled with thanksgiving and pride.Group prayer

It is seven-thirty in the morning, forty-five minutes before class has yet to begin.  I could see the sanctuary where several of us gather every morning to seek God and pray for His will to be done.  Of those who gather most are teenagers.  There were some teachers who gathered to believe for those under their care.

These kids meet each morning to believe the Lord for relatives who don’t yet know the Lord, for a greater infilling of the Holy Spirit, for our pastors and our Calvary Temple missionaries (click here)who are overseas,  for physical needs, and those who are suffering, and for a compassion for the lost among many other things.

group prayerAs a teenager I had trouble waking up.  When I didn’t have to drive myself I fell asleep on my commute to high school.  I am richly blessed to hear TEENAGE volunteers each morning raising their voices to pray for their neighbors or relatives to know Jesus.  As I write each week to encourage and update our missionaries I can tell them that there are teenagers who gather every morning to lift them up before the throne of God!  What a miracle!

We have seen answers to prayer.  I came to know the Lord as the result of a very similar group who prayed for me and my family.  Many years ago the Lord spoke to me to pray before high school started.  I invited any of the students who would like to come.  Most mornings we have about 15 who come up to trust the Lord for Him to move in our lives and the community around us.

Matt 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Matt 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

In a day when teenagers are typically plugged into mp3 players, video games, and smart phones it is a miracle to see some who understand that the greatest way to spend your time is seeking God!

David accomplished great things for the Lord as a teenager.  Mary was likely in her teens when she was chosen to be the Hailey prayingmother of Jesus.  We don’t have to wait until life has made grey and tired to have an effect on eternity!

Lam 3:26  It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.27  It is good for a man that he bear the yoke  in his youth.

Cade prayingAs a youth pastor there is nothing more satisfying than to see young people who are walking with the Lord.  Many of the kids who started praying these mornings are now adults and part of Calvary Temple Young Adults ministry (click here).  We have seen great answers to prayer over the years as we have believed for healing, souls to be saved, opportunities to preach the gospel, and the courage to be obedient to all that God asks us to do!
